EVALUATIONS OF A TASK - SURROUND LIGHTING SYSTEM IN A LOW AMBIENT LIGHTING ENVIRONMENTS

Peter Ngai from the Acuity Brands Horizon team presented at the IES Annual Conference in November, 2015. He discussed  energy-efficient lighting for effective workplace environments using task-surround lighting in low-lit ambient settings, enabling workers to customize lighting for a more personalized working experience.

2013 SOLID-STATE LIGHITNG R&D WORKSHOP

Among the illustrious panelists at this year's 2013 DOE SSL Solid-State Lighting R&D Workshop was Dr. Mike Lu, Director of OLED Technology of Acuity Brands Lighting's OLED Business Group. Mike’s talk about OLEDs helped all to understand how this young technology is maturing rapidly and bringing with it new possibilities. Specifically, OLEDs provide lighting designers with the ability to rethink the way we utilize light. By delivering quality diffuse light, they can be placed closer to where light is needed and therefore offer a significant energy savings.

2013 DOE OLED PLANNING MEETING

At the October 2013 DOE OLED Planning Meeting held in Rochester, NY, Mike Lu presented a comprehensive paper on pertinent matters related to current and in-progress OLED standards, OLED product standardization, color quality, life tests, reliability/failure issues.

OLEDS' DISTINCT ADVANTAGE IN PLACING LIGHT WHERE NEEDED RAISES THE BAR FOR ENERGY-EFFICIENT DESIGN

Through the development of new lighting concepts, we’ve discovered how OLED yields higher application efficiency over conventional lighting – by 18-93%.  Even at today’s panel efficacy of 60 lumens per Watt, energy use is comparable to fluorescent at 100 lumens per Watt. In just three years, energy savings of 16-41% will be possible, and this number will only improve as OLED technology evolves; it is projected to reach an efficacy of 150 lumens per Watt in 2015.
